Village Hall, Wiltshire

A competition for a Village Hall in Wiltshire.

The Village Hall combines a contextual agricultural feel, with a sense of civic presence. It uses natural tactile materials, and draws upon the chalk hills in the region.

A rammed chalk wall lines the entrance area, and offers the opportunity to be constructed as a part of a community event. The upper level is then clad in a rhythmic timber patterning.

The site layout ensures the Hall is not too dominant on the streetscape, and encloses an outdoor community area. A large and a small hall are accommodated internally around shared bar and resource areas with a degree of flexibility for the myriad of community activities that will take place during the typical life of a thriving village.
