St Peter's Primary School

Completed whilst working at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Nicola du Pisanie was the project architect for this building up to tender stage, before she left to form Stonewood Design.

St Peters is a Catholic primary school in Gloucester funded through the Primary Capital programme. This school has been designed as a single storey building and organised as three distinct but linked zones of accommodation with key stages one and two sandwiching shared communal, project and sports spaces.

The small hall at the heart of the scheme is lofty and when separated off becomes a chapel space but can also be opened up to the adjacent stepped area to hold school and wider congregational gatherings.

The building is constructed and clad from wood with solid timber spine walls and cedar cladding. Winter garden entrance porches to each classroom are accessible off covered external areas which provide a sheltered space for teaching or play. The gently meandering roofline of the three elements of the building provides light and ventilation to the central spaces and also creates spatial character to the classrooms and circulation spaces.
